Eastern Cape Department of Transport Announces Extensive 2026 Recruitment Drive

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has officially opened applications for a broad range of vacancies across the province for 2026. The recruitment campaign covers key operational and support areas including traffic law enforcement, finance, human resources, supply chain management, infrastructure maintenance, registry services, and administrative support.

Opportunities are available at both entry-level and senior supervisory levels. Qualified and interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications before the closing date of 27 February 2026 at 23:59.

Key Vacancies

🚦 Chief Provincial Inspector (Level 10)

Salary: R582,444 – R686,091 per annum
Locations: Including Sarah Baartman and Joe Gqabi Districts

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) or Degree (NQF 7) in Traffic Safety, Transport Management, Public Management, LLB or related fields

  • 7–10 years’ experience in traffic law enforcement

  • 3–5 years’ supervisory experience

  • Valid Code B driver’s licence

  • No criminal record

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforcement of road traffic and transport legislation

  • Management of traffic policing operations

  • Coordination of joint law enforcement strategies

  • Supervision of Provincial Inspectors

  • Oversight of fleet management and budget monitoring


🚔 Provincial Inspector: Traffic Law Enforcement

Salary: R269,499 – R317,463 per annum

Available Posts:

  • 6 permanent posts across Joe Gqabi, Sarah Baartman, and Chris Hani

  • 133 contract posts (12 months) at Head Office in King William’s Town

Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate

  • Basic Traffic Diploma

  • Minimum 1 year law enforcement experience

  • Valid Code B driver’s licence

Duties Include:

  • Conducting roadblocks and patrols

  • Performing vehicle inspections and roadworthy tests

  • Executing arrests and issuing notices

  • Escorting abnormal loads

  • Attending court proceedings


Supply Chain Management (SCM)

  • SCM Clerk (Supervisor) – Level 7
    Salary: R325,101 – R382,959 per annum

  • SCM Clerk (Production) – Level 5
    Salary: R228,321 – R268,950 per annum

Responsibilities Include:

  • Bid advertisement and evaluation

  • Supplier database management

  • Procurement coordination

  • Asset and logistics management

  • Secretariat services for bid committees


Human Resources & Finance

HR Clerk (Supervisor & Production Levels)

  • Handling appointments, transfers, and service benefits

  • Managing leave and pension applications

  • Administering performance management systems

Finance Clerk (Expenditure & Revenue Management)

  • Processing supplier payments

  • Revenue reconciliation

  • Monitoring BAS, LOGIS, and PERSAL systems

  • Ensuring compliance with PFMA regulations


Infrastructure & Operational Support Roles

Additional vacancies include:

  • Road Works Foreman

  • Administrative Clerks (Transport Infrastructure, Scholar Transport, Community Development)

  • Registry Clerks

  • Secretaries

  • IT Support Clerks

  • EPWP Coordination Support

These roles support service delivery, infrastructure maintenance, and administrative efficiency throughout the province.
