Department of Small Business Development Announces Vacancies
The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) has opened applications for two senior management positions aimed at enhancing support for South Africa’s small business and informal economy sectors. The Pretoria-based positions offer experienced professionals an opportunity to contribute to the department’s mandate of fostering entrepreneurship, economic transformation, and sustainable enterprise growth.
Director: Value Chain Support
The DSBD is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to fill the position of Director: Value Chain Support. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of value chain initiatives that strengthen the participation and competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and co-operatives.
Key responsibilities include facilitating market access opportunities, promoting integration into local and global value chains, and establishing collaborative partnerships with government departments, municipalities, development finance institutions, and private-sector stakeholders.
Applicants must possess an NQF Level 7 qualification in Economics, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies, Business Management, or a related field, together with a minimum of five years’ experience at middle or senior management level within a value chain support environment.
The position offers an all-inclusive annual remuneration package of R1 266 714.
Director: Informal & Micro Business Development
The department is also recruiting a Director: Informal & Micro Business Development to lead programmes and initiatives that support informal traders and micro enterprises across South Africa.
The successful candidate will oversee policy development, programme implementation, business formalisation initiatives, and economic inclusion strategies. The role requires extensive stakeholder engagement and partnership management with municipalities, provincial governments, state-owned entities, and private-sector organisations.
Candidates must hold an undergraduate qualification in Business Administration, Commerce, Development Finance, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies, or a related discipline. A minimum of five years’ senior management experience within the informal business development sector is required.
The successful applicant will receive an annual salary package of R1 266 714.
