National Treasury Announces Vacancy

The National Treasury has officially opened applications for the position of Senior State Accountant: Internal Control and Compliance (Ref No: S065/2026) within the Office of the Director-General (ODG) in Pretoria.

This opportunity is ideal for finance and compliance professionals seeking to advance their careers in public sector financial management and governance. The successful candidate will receive an annual salary package of R413,001 per annum (excluding benefits).

Purpose of the Role

The appointed candidate will support the implementation and assessment of internal control systems and ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, and other financial governance frameworks. The role is critical in strengthening accountability, financial oversight, and regulatory compliance within the department.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in:
    • Financial Accounting
    • Auditing
    • Risk Management
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in an accounting environment involving:
    • Financial reporting
    • Compliance monitoring
    • Internal control
    • Risk management
  • Practical knowledge of internal control systems and financial reporting procedures
  • Understanding of the PFMA and Treasury Regulations

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of governance and compliance-related duties, including:

Internal Control and Financial Administration

  • Maintaining financial databases on systems such as LOGIS, BAS, IFMS, and Safety Web
  • Administering loss control processes in line with regulatory requirements
  • Verifying accounting documentation for compliance and accuracy
  • Managing accounting filing systems and records
  • Maintaining budget manager signature verification structures
  • Updating financial management policies and procedures

Financial Reporting and Oversight

  • Supporting year-end financial processes
  • Assisting with the preparation of annual financial statements
  • Contributing to management reporting activities
  • Responding to financial and compliance-related queries
  • Maintaining the departmental loss control register

Policy Analysis and Compliance

  • Advising stakeholders on amendments to financial legislation and regulations
  • Supporting implementation of financial management processes
  • Assisting with compliance monitoring and policy analysis
  • Participating in audit coordination and financial statement reviews
