The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) has announced a senior executive vacancy for the position of Deputy Director-General: Content Processing and Dissemination, based in Pretoria. Position Overview

The Deputy Director-General will play a central role in overseeing the development and coordination of government communication strategies. The position offers a competitive all-inclusive remuneration package of approximately R1.8 million per annum, reflecting its executive level and national significance.

Key Responsibilities

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Leading and implementing integrated government communication strategies
  • Managing digital communication platforms and media production processes
  • Ensuring alignment and consistency of messaging across all spheres of government
  • Overseeing media buying, branding, and marketing services
  • Driving research-informed improvements in communication practices
  • Ensuring sound governance, financial management, and regulatory compliance
  • Facilitating coordination among government departments and key stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 8) in Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience at a senior management level in a communications environment
  • Completion of the Nyukela Public Service SMS Pre-Entry Programme
  • Demonstrated leadership, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government communication systems and policies
