Department of Higher Education and Training Announces Senior Management and Specialist Vacancies for 2026
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has opened applications for a range of senior management and specialist positions for the 2026 recruitment cycle. Senior Management Service (SMS) Positions – Level 13
DHET invites applications for Director-level positions within the Senior Management Service. These posts offer an all-inclusive remuneration package of R1 266 714 per annum and require extensive leadership experience, policy expertise, and strong management capabilities.
Available Director Posts Include:

Director: National Qualifications Framework (NQF) and PSET Planning
Responsible for coordinating DHET’s mandate in terms of the NQF Act, overseeing collaboration with SAQA and Quality Councils, and ensuring effective policy implementation and monitoring. -
Director: CET Institutional Planning and Support
Focuses on strategic planning, enrolment growth, institutional support, and monitoring and evaluation within the CET sector. -
Director: International Scholarships
Leads the development and administration of international scholarship programmes, including funding oversight, stakeholder engagement, and student support. -
Director: Teacher Education
Oversees national policies and programmes related to initial teacher education and continuing professional development across early childhood, schooling, CET, and TVET sectors.
Deputy Director and Deputy Principal Posts – Levels 11 and 12
DHET is also recruiting for Deputy Director and Deputy Principal positions, with remuneration ranging from R896 436 to R1 059 105 per annum. These roles are suited to professionals with strong analytical, financial, planning, and implementation skills.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should meet the following criteria:

A relevant Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) or higher qualification

Appropriate experience at junior, middle, or senior management level

Sound knowledge of education policy, planning, public finance, and governance

Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills

A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

A pre-entry certificate into SMS (where applicable)
