Based in East London, this position offers an all-inclusive remuneration package exceeding R1.2 million per annum. The role entails strategic oversight of drinking water and wastewater regulation within the province.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with drinking water and sanitation standards

  • Monitoring municipal performance through Blue Drop and Green Drop programmes

  • Regulating water use efficiency and tariffs

  • Overseeing financial, operational, and human resource planning

Applicants must possess an NQF Level 7 qualification in Science or an equivalent field, together with at least five years’ management experience in the water services sector.

Scientific Leadership Role – Pretoria

Scientist Manager Grade A (Ref: 270226/02)
Located in Pretoria (Roodeplaat), this post offers an all-inclusive package exceeding R1 million per annum. The position requires an MSc qualification in Natural, Earth, or Numerical Sciences, as well as professional registration with SACNASP.

Responsibilities include managing water resource quality information systems, coordinating scientific analysis and reporting, producing technical publications, and providing scientific support to departmental programmes.

Engineering and Infrastructure Management Posts

To strengthen infrastructure rehabilitation and asset management, the department is recruiting for the following technical roles:

  • Control Engineering Technologist Grade A (Ref: 270226/03) – Pretoria Head Office
    Focus on conveyance systems such as canals, pipelines, pump stations, and reservoirs. Applicants must be registered with ECSA and have six years’ post-qualification experience.

  • Engineering Technician Production Grade A–C (Ref: 270226/07) – Five posts
    Supporting infrastructure projects from planning through implementation. A National Diploma in Engineering and ECSA registration are required.

Geological and Environmental Posts

  • Scientist (Production) Grade A–C (Ref: 270226/04) – Pretoria
    Providing geotechnical expertise for dams and bulk water infrastructure, including investigations and technical reporting.

  • Environmental Officer: Specialised Production Grade A (Ref: 270226/05) – Pretoria
    Responsible for environmental compliance, Environmental Control Officer services, and adherence to NEMA and the National Water Act.

Artisan and Workshop Positions – Standerton

The Standerton Area Office is recruiting skilled personnel for infrastructure operations and maintenance:

  • Chief Artisan Grade A (Electrical/Mechanical)

  • Artisan Production Grade A–C (Electrical/Mechanical)

  • Tradesman Aid (Electrical/Mechanical) – Five posts

  • General Stores Assistant – Two posts

These roles support maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, workshops, and stores operations.
