Department of Basic Education Opens Infrastructure Job Opportunities in Pretoria

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) invites applications for several vacant posts within its Infrastructure Branch, based in Pretoria. These positions support the department’s mandate to strengthen planning, delivery, and oversight of school infrastructure programmes across South Africa.

Available Positions

Deputy Director: Grant Management and Compliance (Ref: DBE/10/2026)
Salary: R896,436 per annum
Centre: Pretoria

The successful candidate will coordinate and monitor education infrastructure programmes implemented by provincial departments. Key functions include evaluating physical and financial performance, producing analytical reports aligned with sector targets, managing disaster-related infrastructure interventions, and contributing to policy and guideline development.

Applicants must hold a three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in a built environment discipline, have at least four years’ experience at Assistant Director level or equivalent, and possess a valid driver’s licence.


Deputy Director: Infrastructure Monitoring (Ref: DBE/11/2026)
Salary: R896,436 per annum
Centre: Pretoria

This role entails monitoring and reporting on school infrastructure projects, including maintenance and compliance with norms and standards. Responsibilities include analysing provincial reports, conducting verification visits, and leading multidisciplinary task teams.

Candidates must have an NQF Level 6 qualification, a minimum of four years’ experience in school infrastructure monitoring, and sound knowledge of DORA, grant frameworks, and built environment legislation.


Senior Administrative Officer: School Infrastructure Monitoring (Ref: DBE/12/2026)
Salary: R397,116 per annum
Centre: Pretoria

The incumbent will support infrastructure monitoring activities through project inspections, verification of reported performance, and participation in disaster-related school rehabilitation initiatives.

Applicants must hold a three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in the built environment or a related field, have at least two years’ relevant experience, and possess a valid driver’s licence.
