Free State Provincial Government Vacancies – 2026

The Free State Provincial Government invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for vacant positions within the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) and the Free State Provincial Treasury.

These positions are based in Bloemfontein and present career opportunities for professionals in governance, finance, auditing, and supply chain management.

1. Audit Committee Member (5 Posts)

Department: Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA)
Location: Bloemfontein
Closing Date: 13 March 2026
Contract Period: Three (3) years, commencing August 2026
Remuneration: Paid per meeting in accordance with National Treasury guidelines

Job Overview

DESTEA seeks to appoint independent and suitably qualified professionals to serve on its Audit Committee. The committee supports sound governance, effective risk management, and financial accountability within the department.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification or equivalent

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in one or more of the following fields:
    Accounting, Auditing, Financial Management, Risk Management, Project Management, Information Technology, Economics, Legal Services, or Tourism

  • Membership of a recognised professional body

  • Prior experience serving on an audit committee or similar governance structure

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Provide independent oversight of governance, risk, and financial management

  • Review internal audit and risk management reports

  • Support compliance with Treasury Regulations

  • Monitor internal control systems

  • Attend at least four audit committee meetings annually

2. Director: Supply Chain Management

Department: Free State Provincial Treasury

Location: Bloemfontein

Salary: R1,266,714 per annum (Level 13)

Job Overview

The Free State Provincial Treasury seeks an experienced senior manager to oversee supply chain and procurement operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic supply chain planning, compliance, and leadership of the Supply Chain Directorate.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in Commerce, Public Administration, or Management

  • At least five (5) years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Proven experience in supply chain or financial management

  • Sound knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, PPPFA, and BBBEE legislation

  • Working knowledge of BAS, LOGIS, and the Central Supplier Database

  • A valid driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage procurement, logistics, and asset management

  • Implement and monitor supply chain policies

  • Ensure compliance with procurement legislation

  • Respond to Auditor-General findings

  • Support bid committees

  • Lead and manage the Supply Chain Directorate
