Department of Traditional Affairs Announces Deputy Director: Legislation Vacancy in Pretoria
The Department of Traditional Affairs (DTA) has opened applications for the position of Deputy Director: Legislation (Ref No: 2026/05). The post is based in Pretoria and forms part of the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen legislative and policy development within South Africa’s traditional governance framework.

Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will receive an all-inclusive remuneration package of R896 436 per annum (Level 11), structured as follows:

70% basic salary

30% flexible portion in line with applicable public service guidelines
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:

A Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Law, Policy Development and Management, Public Policy, or an equivalent qualification
-
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at junior management or Assistant Director level
-
Proven experience in legislation or policy drafting
-
A valid driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will:

Conduct research on legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines related to traditional affairs

Develop and review sector legislation and policy documents
-
Facilitate parliamentary processes relating to traditional affairs legislation
-
Support interpretation and implementation of approved legislation
-
Provide administrative and financial support to the Directorate
