Gauteng Government Vacancies 2026: Senior Management and Specialist Posts Announced

Management Echelon Posts – Gauteng Department of Environment

1. Deputy Director-General: Environment

Salary: R1 813 182 per annum (all-inclusive)
Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

The Deputy Director-General will provide strategic leadership across environmental compliance, biodiversity conservation, waste management, air quality regulation, and sustainable development programmes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric and a postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Science, Natural Science, Business Management, or a related field recognised by SAQA

  • At least 8 years’ experience at a senior managerial level

  • Valid driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of environmental compliance and enforcement services

  • Management of biodiversity and scientific services

  • Development and implementation of waste management strategies

  • Promotion of climate-conscious and sustainable development initiatives

  • Budget consolidation and financial governance


2. Chief Director: Corporate Management Services

Salary: R1 494 900 per annum (all-inclusive)
Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

This role oversees corporate support services, including human resources, ICT, legal advisory, infrastructure, and strategic management.

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Public Administration, Human Resources, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years’ senior managerial experience in corporate services

  • Sound knowledge of PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Public Service Act, and Labour Relations legislation


3. Director: Risk, Anti-Corruption & Integrity Management

Salary: R1 266 714 per annum
Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

This position is responsible for enterprise risk management, fraud prevention, ethical governance, and integrity oversight.

Core Duties:

  • Conduct strategic and operational risk assessments

  • Develop and implement fraud prevention and anti-corruption strategies

  • Investigate allegations of misconduct

  • Align departmental policies with governance frameworks

Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 qualification in Risk Management or a related discipline, with at least 5 years’ management experience.


4. Director: Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Salary: R1 266 714 per annum
Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

The Director: ICT will lead digital transformation initiatives, ICT governance, infrastructure management, and cybersecurity functions.

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in ICT, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Knowledge of ICT governance frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL, and ISO standards


5. Director: Communications

Salary: R1 266 714 per annum
Location: Johannesburg (Head Office)

The incumbent will manage integrated communication strategies, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and public awareness campaigns.

Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations

  • At least 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Proven leadership, strategic planning, and financial management capabilities


Office of the Premier

Head of Department: Gauteng Department of Environment

Reference: REFS/GEVN/2026/01
Contract: 3-year performance-based contract (renewable for 2 years)
Salary: R2 352 642 – R2 650 223 per annum plus 10% non-pensionable allowance
Location: Johannesburg

This position serves as the Accounting Officer in terms of the PFMA and is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the department.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Management, Public Administration, Business Management, or a related field

  • At least 10 years’ senior management experience

  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale budgets and complex institutions


Gauteng Department of Health

Assistant Manager Nursing Specialty (Theatre/ICU) – PN-B4

Reference: REFS/TMH/2026/02/01
Salary: R755 355 – R863 667 per annum plus benefits
Centre: Tambo Memorial Hospital

This role requires advanced clinical expertise in ICU or Theatre nursing, combined with proven management capability.

Requirements:

  • Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse

  • Minimum 10 years’ general nursing experience

  • At least 6 years’ experience in ICU or Theatre

  • Minimum 3 years’ management experience
