The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) invites applications from qualified and experienced Geographic Information Science (GISc) professionals for a senior-level position based in Pretoria. Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A four-year Bachelor’s degree in GISc (NQF Level 7) or an equivalent qualification recognized by SAQA
- A minimum of six years’ post-qualification experience in GISc
- Registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) as a GISc Professional
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Remote sensing and satellite imagery analysis
- Geo-database design and spatial data modelling
- Project and programme management
- GIS-related research and development
A valid driver’s license will be considered advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and manage the department’s GISc function
- Provide strategic direction on GIS initiatives
- Oversee spatial data analysis and modelling to inform policy development
- Manage GISc projects, systems, and programmes
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and policies
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making
- Promote innovation and research within GIS technologies
- Engage with stakeholders and contribute to institutional strategy
