Overview

The dtic is seeking a Chief Information Officer to lead the department’s ICT strategy and oversee digital transformation initiatives. The successful candidate will ensure that technology systems effectively support operational goals while strengthening cybersecurity and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of the department’s ICT strategy.

  • Manage ICT infrastructure, enterprise architecture, and information systems.

  • Oversee cybersecurity frameworks, disaster recovery, and risk mitigation plans.

  • Drive digital transformation initiatives, including cloud migration and automation.

  • Manage ICT budgets, vendors, and service provider contracts.

  • Lead and develop multidisciplinary ICT teams.

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Informatics, or a related discipline.

  • At least five years of senior management experience in the ICT sector.

  • Strong knowledge of ICT governance frameworks such as COBIT and ITIL.

  • Experience managing enterprise infrastructure, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity strategies.


2. Director: Research Management

Overview

The Director: Research Management will lead the department’s strategic research agenda and ensure that policy decisions are supported by robust economic research and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the department’s medium-term research strategy.

  • Produce economic intelligence briefs and policy-oriented research analysis.

  • Manage relationships with Strategic Research Partners.

  • Oversee the Knowledge Management Centre and economic data resources.

  • Present economic insights to government stakeholders and foreign missions.

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Economics, Econometrics, or a related field.

  • Minimum five years of research management experience.

  • Strong analytical skills and expertise in economic data interpretation.

  • Experience coordinating research programmes and managing research contracts.


3. Director: Operations (Industrial Financing Branch)

Overview

The Director: Operations will support the Industrial Financing Branch by coordinating strategic planning, operational management, and performance monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate strategic and operational plans for the branch.

  • Oversee performance management, financial planning, and risk reporting.

  • Manage procurement processes and ensure compliance with government regulations.

  • Provide strategic analysis and support parliamentary reporting requirements.

4. Economist

Salary: R1 059 105 per year (all-inclusive package)
Location: Sunnyside, Pretoria

Overview

The Economist will support the department’s economic research and policy development initiatives, including the management of commissioned research projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify research topics affecting South Africa’s economy.

  • Conduct applied economic analysis and develop policy briefs.

  • Draft terms of reference for commissioned research projects.

  • Monitor progress of research conducted by Strategic Research Partners.

  • Facilitate collaboration with government, academic, and industry stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Economics or Econometrics.

  • 3–5 years of experience in economic research or policy analysis.

  • Experience working with economic data and producing analytical reports.

  • Strong communication and project management skills.
