Department of Tourism Announces Senior Management Vacancies in Pretoria

The Department of Tourism has opened applications for two Senior Management Service (SMS) positions based in Pretoria. These appointments form part of the Department’s strategic efforts to strengthen human resource development and enterprise growth within South Africa’s tourism sector, while advancing transformation, skills development, and inclusive economic participation.

Available Positions

1. Chief Director: Tourism Sector Human Resource Development

Reference: DT12/2026
Location: Pretoria
Salary: R1,494,900 per annum (all-inclusive package)

This position is responsible for providing strategic leadership in demand-led skills development across the tourism sector. The role entails oversight of governance frameworks, programme planning, and implementation related to tourism human resource development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership aligned with departmental priorities

  • Coordinate tourism sector HRD governance structures

  • Manage partnerships with education institutions and industry stakeholders

  • Oversee implementation of tourism skills development programmes

  • Ensure effective management of financial and human resources

Minimum Requirements:

  • SAQA-recognised qualification at NQF Level 7 or higher

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at Senior Management level

  • Demonstrated expertise in HR development, policy formulation, stakeholder management, and financial management

  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

  • SMS Pre-Entry Certificate (mandatory prior to appointment)


2. Director: Enterprise Development

Reference: DT13/2026
Location: Pretoria
Salary: R1,266,714 per annum (all-inclusive package)

The Director will lead tourism enterprise development initiatives, with a strong emphasis on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The role focuses on improving access to markets, finance, training, and incubation support for tourism businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and enhance the tourism enterprise information portal

  • Coordinate online training programmes and call centre services

  • Facilitate market access and trade opportunities for emerging enterprises

  • Design and implement financial, technical, and incentive support instruments

  • Lead partnerships and resource mobilisation initiatives

  • Oversee enterprise incubation and growth planning

Minimum Requirements:

  • SAQA-recognised NQF Level 7 qualification in Tourism, Economics, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field

  • At least 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Sound knowledge of MSME development, project management, and public finance legislation

  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel

  • SMS Pre-Entry Certificate required prior to appointment
