Department of Agriculture Vacancies 2026 – Applications Close 13 February

The Department of Agriculture (DOA) has announced several vacant posts for suitably qualified and experienced professionals. These appointments form part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural research, food safety, land-use management, and regulatory oversight across South Africa.

Available Posts

1. Scientific Manager (Grade A)

Ref No: 3/3/1/40/2025
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Salary: R1 099 488 per annum (OSD, all-inclusive)

This senior management role focuses on national policy development, scientific programme management, and sustainable land-use planning, including GIS-based applications.

Minimum Requirements:

  • MSc in Agriculture or equivalent (NQF Level 9)

  • SACNASP registration

  • Minimum of 6 years post-qualification experience

  • Proven expertise in land-use planning and GIS

2. Scientist Production (Grade A)

Ref No: 3/3/1/38/2025
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Salary: R761 157 per annum

The position is responsible for food safety and quality assurance, including regulatory development and compliance with international food standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc (Hons) in Food Science or Food Technology

  • SACNASP registration

  • At least 3 years post-qualification experience

3. Scientific Technician (Grade A)

Ref No: 3/3/1/29/2025
Location: Stellenbosch, Western Cape
Salary: R391 671 per annum

This role provides technical support for scientific research related to plant varieties and genetic resources.

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Agricultural, Biological, or Botanical Science

  • SACNASP registration

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant technical experience

4. Senior Agriculture Registration Officer

Ref No: 3/3/1/37/2025
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Salary: R397 116 per annum

The successful candidate will manage registration and administrative processes related to agricultural inputs in accordance with legislative requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma or Degree in Public Management or Administration

  • At least 1 year relevant experience

  • Knowledge of Act 36 of 1947 and public service legislation

5. Chief Agricultural Legislative Inspector (X2 Posts)

Ref No: 3/3/1/39/2025
Locations: Upington (Northern Cape) and KwaZulu-Natal
Salary: R397 116 per annum

This position involves inspection, enforcement, audits, and support for prosecution relating to agricultural inputs and products.

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSc Degree in Agriculture (NQF Level 7)

  • Minimum of 2 years inspection experience

  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
