Vacancies at the Department of Social Development

The Department of Social Development (DSD) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for senior management positions based in Pretoria. These appointments support the Department’s mandate to enhance governance, service delivery, and stakeholder engagement within the social development sector.

Available Senior Management Posts

1. Chief Director: Communications

Reference Number: B1/A/2026
Salary: R1,494,900 per annum (all-inclusive SMS package)
Location: HSRC Building, Pretoria

Role Overview:
The Chief Director: Communications is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the Department’s internal and external communication functions. The role includes serving as the official departmental spokesperson and overseeing media relations, public relations, content development, and events management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal and external communication services

  • Oversee media engagement and content development

  • Lead stakeholder and public relations communication

  • Manage the directorate’s budget, personnel, and performance

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, or Digital Marketing

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at senior management level

  • Sound knowledge of government communication frameworks, GCIS, media environment, and relevant legislation

2. Director: Legal Services

Reference Number: B1/B/2026
Salary: R1,266,714 per annum (all-inclusive package)
Location: HSRC Building, Pretoria

Role Overview:
This position provides legal advisory, litigation, and legislative drafting services to the Department, ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory and constitutional requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review legislation, contracts, and legal documents

  • Manage litigation and legal risk

  • Provide legal advice and opinions

  • Oversee compliance and contractual matters

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Law (LLB, BProc, or BJur)

  • At least 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Admission as an attorney or advocate will be an added advantage

  • In-depth knowledge of public service and constitutional legislation

3. Director: NPO Funding Coordination

Reference Number: B1/C/2026
Salary: R1,266,714 per annum (all-inclusive package)
Location: HSRC Building, Pretoria

Role Overview:
The Director: NPO Funding Coordination manages funding frameworks and systems for Non-Profit Organisations delivering social development services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement NPO funding policies and frameworks

  • Manage transfer payments and compliance monitoring

  • Coordinate stakeholder partnerships

  • Strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • NQF Level 7 qualification in Public Management, Developmental Studies, or Social Sciences

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at middle or senior management level

  • Strong knowledge of NPO legislation, PFMA, and funding regulations
