Department of Small Business Development
The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) has announced two senior management vacancies as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen South Africa’s small enterprise ecosystem and reinforce governance within the department. Both positions are based in Pretoria, and applications close on 13 March 2026 at 16:00.

Vacancy 1: Deputy Director – International Relations (Bilateral and Multilateral Agreements)
Reference: DD IR B&MA
Salary: R896 436 per annum
The department invites applications from suitably qualified professionals to lead and implement its international relations strategy in support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and co-operatives.
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in International Relations, Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, BCom International Trade, Political Studies, or a related SAQA-recognised qualification

At least 3 years’ relevant experience in international relations, intergovernmental relations, or international market access support at a supervisory or managerial (ASD) level

Proficiency in MS Office
Key Competencies:
Programme and project management; stakeholder relations and diplomacy; research and analysis; change management; service delivery innovation; strong written and verbal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will coordinate and manage bilateral and multilateral agreements, engage with embassies and international organisations, identify opportunities for MSMEs within international agreements, oversee MOUs, facilitate stakeholder engagements, and manage sub-directorate resources and operations.
Vacancy 2: Assistant Director – Internal Audit
Reference: ASD IA
Salary: R468 459 per annum
The DSBD is also recruiting an Assistant Director to enhance internal audit processes, governance, and compliance frameworks.
Minimum Requirements:

Undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in Auditing or Accounting (SAQA recognised)

Minimum of 3 years’ auditing experience

Postgraduate qualification in auditing, accounting, or IT auditing (advantageous)

Experience in financial statement auditing or IT auditing (advantageous)
Key Competencies:
Strong analytical and report-writing skills; project management; problem-solving; planning and organising; attention to detail; effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
The appointee will assist in developing risk-based audit plans, supervise and conduct internal audit engagements, compile audit reports for senior management and the Audit Committee, monitor legislative developments, and support administrative functions within the Internal Audit Unit.
