National Treasury Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) Programme 2026 – Applications Open

The National Treasury of the Republic of South Africa invites applications for the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) Programme 2026. This is a structured 36-month training contract designed to develop future Chartered Accountants while strengthening public sector financial management capacity.

The programme offers candidates the opportunity to obtain high-level exposure to public finance operations while progressing toward the Chartered Accountant [CA(SA)] qualification.

About the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA)

The CAA is housed within the Office of the Accountant-General and focuses on developing technical competence, ethical leadership, and Professional Values, Attitudes and Acumen (PVAA). Trainees are prepared for senior leadership roles in both the public and private sectors.

Participants are exposed to modern financial management systems, policy formulation, and public sector reform initiatives.


Position Details

  • Post Title: Chartered Accountants Academy Trainee

  • Reference: Chartered Accountants Academy 2025

  • Programme Duration: 36 months

  • Stipend: R397 116 per annum (all-inclusive)

  • Duty Stations: Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) or equivalent

  • Qualification must meet SAICA requirements to sit for the ITC in January 2026

  • South African citizenship

  • Full academic transcript and supporting documentation

Foreign qualifications (including O- and A-Levels) must be evaluated by SAQA at the applicant’s own cost.


Training and Key Responsibilities

Trainees will rotate through various National Treasury units and will:

  • Gain exposure to public sector financial management

  • Participate in policy development and reform initiatives

  • Develop technical accounting, governance, and ethical leadership skills

  • Contribute toward addressing skills shortages within the public sector

Specific learning outcomes will be communicated by the hosting units.

Selection Process and Important Notes

  • Shortlisted candidates will complete:

    • A technical assessment

    • An integrity and ethical conduct assessment

  • The National Treasury does not permit the undisclosed use of AI tools during assessments

  • Background checks (qualifications, criminal record, and citizenship) will be conducted

  • Successful candidates must sign a Learning Agreement within three months of appointment
