The Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) invites suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Director-General: Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. This senior management position is offered on a five-year fixed-term contract and is based in Pretoria.

Additional Benefit: 10% non-pensionable Head of Department allowance
The remuneration package is all-inclusive and consists of a basic salary, employer pension contribution, and a flexible component structured according to individual needs.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
-
Bachelor’s Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma at NQF Level 8, recognised by SAQA
-
A minimum of 10 years’ senior management experience in strategic and administrative roles
-
Proven experience in establishing and maintaining governance systems
-
Successful completion of the Executive Induction Programme (required at shortlisting stage)
-
In-depth knowledge of government planning, monitoring and evaluation systems
-
Sound understanding of public service legislation, including the PFMA, PSA, and Treasury Regulations
Key Competencies and Skills

Strategic leadership and executive management capability
-
Policy analysis, research and programme evaluation expertise
-
Financial management and project management proficiency
-
Ability to manage complex, multi-sector government programmes
-
Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
-
Knowledge of the National Development Plan (NDP)
-
Ethical leadership, integrity and accountability
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Minister in the Presidency, the Director-General will:

Serve as Accounting Officer in terms of the PFMA
-
Provide strategic leadership aligned to national priorities
-
Oversee planning, monitoring and evaluation systems across government
-
Coordinate implementation of the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP)
-
Strengthen oversight of public sector performance and service delivery
-
Ensure sound corporate governance, financial management and risk control
-
Lead national monitoring initiatives, including the District Development Model (DDM)
