Statistics South Africa Vacancies 2026: Management and Economics Opportunities

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has released its 2026 vacancy circular, advertising multiple senior and mid-level positions at its Head Office in Pretoria. The vacancies span management, economics and statistical disciplines and are aimed at qualified professionals seeking to contribute to South Africa’s official statistical system.

Stats SA operates in accordance with the Statistics Act, 1999, and is mandated to produce credible, relevant and timely official statistics to support policy formulation, planning and socio-economic development.

Director Positions (Salary Level 13)

Salary: R1 216 824 per annum

  • Director: Data Validation & Administration Support

  • Director: Social Statistics Assessment

These posts are responsible for strategic leadership, statistical quality assurance, policy development and coordination of national and international reporting obligations.

Deputy Director Positions (Salary Level 11)

Salary: R896 436 per annum (all-inclusive)

  • Deputy Director: Social Statistics Assessment (Ref: 03/01/26HO)

  • Deputy Director: Economic Statistics Assessment (Ref: 04/01/26HO)

  • Deputy Director: Indicator Development (Ref: 05/01/26HO)

  • Deputy Director: Economics – Supply & Use Tables (2 Posts) (Ref: 06/01/26HO)

These roles require experience in official statistics, data quality frameworks (SASQAF), economic analysis, indicator development and people management.

Assistant Director Positions (Salary Level 09)

Salary: R468 459 per annum

  • Assistant Director: Economics – Environmental & Ecosystem Accounts (Ref: 07/01/26HO)

  • Assistant Director: Economics – GDP Expenditure (Ref: 08/01/26HO)

The positions focus on GDP compilation, environmental economic accounting, statistical analysis and coordination of production processes.

Economist and Coordinator Positions

  • Economist (Ref: 09/01/26HO)

  • Country Reporting Coordinator (Ref: 10/01/26HO)

Salary: R397 116 per annum

These posts support national accounts, GDP analysis, country reporting requirements and metadata quality assurance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Statistics, Economics, Accounting, Demography, Social Sciences or related fields

  • Relevant experience appropriate to the post level

  • Training in official statistics, SAS, project management or statistical analysis

  • Strong analytical, communication and organisational skills

  • Supervisory or managerial experience and a valid driver’s licence may be required for certain posts
