Office of the Chief Justice Announces New Government Job Vacancies Across South Africa for 2026

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has officially announced several new government job vacancies for 2026, creating employment opportunities for South Africans seeking careers in the public sector.

The latest recruitment drive includes vacancies in administration, court support services, library management, interpretation services, registry operations, typing, and security. Positions are available in key locations including Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria.

The closing date for all applications is 05 June 2026.

Positions Currently Available

The department is recruiting for the following posts:

The vacancies cater to both experienced professionals and entry-level applicants. Some positions require previous work experience, while others are open to candidates with only a Grade 12 qualification.

Senior Administrative Officer Vacancy – Cape Town

One of the major vacancies advertised is the Senior Administrative Officer position at the Labour and Labour Appeals Court in Cape Town.

The successful candidate will receive a salary package ranging between R413 001 and R486 501 per annum.

Applicants must possess a qualification in Public Administration or Management together with three to five years of relevant administrative experience. The role includes responsibilities related to human resource management, procurement administration, financial management, and operational court support.

Knowledge of systems such as BAS and JYP, along with strong leadership and report-writing skills, will serve as added advantages.

Principal Librarian Opportunities

The OCJ is also recruiting Principal Librarians for High Court divisions in Cape Town and Durban.

Successful applicants will manage legal library systems, oversee cataloguing of legal materials, support judges and legal professionals with research assistance, and coordinate digital information services.

Candidates must hold qualifications in Library and Information Science and have relevant library or information management experience.

Court Interpreter Vacancy

A Principal Court Interpreter position is available in Cape Town for candidates with experience in legal interpreting and courtroom language services.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English and Afrikaans and/or IsiXhosa. Responsibilities include interpreting during court proceedings, translating legal documents, assisting with court record reconstruction, and supervising language support services.

Judge’s Secretary Positions

Judge’s Secretary vacancies are available in Durban and Pretoria.

These positions involve diary coordination, court administration support, document preparation, court roll management, and travel arrangements for judges.

Preference will be given to applicants with legal administration experience, typing proficiency, and strong organisational skills.

Registrar’s Clerk

The Typist position based in Cape Town requires candidates with strong typing skills and familiarity with legal terminology and court procedures.

Responsibilities include preparing court documents, reports, court rolls, and official correspondence.

Security Officer Vacancy

The Durban High Court is seeking a qualified Security Officer.

Applicants must possess a valid PSIRA certificate and at least one year of experience within the security sector. Duties include access control, CCTV monitoring, patrol services, and maintaining safety at court premises.
