Office of the Chief Justice Opens Applications for 2026
The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has announced the availability of two employment opportunities within South Africa’s judicial administration system, offering qualified individuals the chance to contribute to the effective functioning of the country’s courts.

Principal Court Interpreter – Mthatha High Court
The Eastern Cape Division of the High Court in Mthatha is inviting applications for the position of Principal Court Interpreter. The post is classified at Salary Level 8, offering an annual remuneration package ranging from R413,001 to R486,501.
Applicants must hold a National Diploma in Legal Interpreting or an equivalent SAQA-recognised qualification at NQF Level 6, together with a minimum of two years’ experience as a Court Interpreter. Alternatively, candidates with a Grade 12 certificate and at least ten years of practical court interpreting experience may be considered.
The successful candidate will be responsible for interpreting proceedings in complex court matters, supervising interpreter services, translating legal documents, coordinating interpreter schedules, and arranging foreign language interpretation services when necessary.
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English, isiXhosa, and either isiZulu or Sesotho. Additional strengths in supervision, communication, organisation, and problem-solving will be advantageous.

Administration Clerk: Legal – Kimberley High Court
The Northern Cape Division of the High Court in Kimberley is recruiting an Administration Clerk: Legal at Salary Level 5. The position offers an annual salary package ranging from R237,453 to R279,708.
The minimum requirement is a Grade 12 qualification. While previous experience is not required, an LLB degree will be considered an advantage. This makes the position particularly suitable for individuals seeking entry-level exposure to the legal and public service sectors.
Responsibilities include conducting legal research, supporting case flow management processes, compiling court performance reports, preparing statistical information, and providing administrative assistance to court management structures.
Applicants should possess strong communication skills, computer literacy, analytical thinking abilities, report-writing capabilities, and an understanding of confidentiality requirements within government institutions.
