GTAC Announces Public Sector Career Opportunities for 2026
The Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC), a division of the National Treasury, has opened applications for several positions aimed at strengthening municipal financial management and administrative capacity across South Africa.
Based in Pretoria, these opportunities are suited to experienced professionals seeking to contribute to improved governance, financial accountability, and service delivery within local government.
Deputy Director: Municipal Support
GTAC is recruiting a Deputy Director: Municipal Support (Ref: G06/2026) on a fixed-term contract ending 30 June 2027.
The successful candidate will receive an all-inclusive remuneration package ranging between R1.1 million and R1.29 million per annum.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in:
- Local Government Finance
- Municipal Financial Management
- Or a related financial discipline
Candidates should also possess six to eight years of relevant experience, including at least two years in a management position. Experience within the public sector will be advantageous.
Additional competencies in project management, research, technical advisory services, and training material development will strengthen an application.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Municipal Finance Improvement Programme (MFIP) through:
- Managing municipal financial support initiatives
- Coordinating technical advisory services
- Monitoring project implementation and budgets
- Promoting compliance with financial legislation
- Facilitating stakeholder engagement
- Supporting municipal capacity-building programmes
A sound understanding of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), Municipal Systems Act, and Municipal Structures Act is essential.
Team Assistant: Municipal Finance Improvement Programme
GTAC is also seeking to appoint a Team Assistant: Municipal Finance Improvement Programme (Ref: G07/2026).
The position offers a salary package ranging from R338 106 to R398 277 per annum, plus applicable benefits.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants must possess a three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in:
- Secretarial Studies
- Office Administration
- Or a related field
Candidates should have two to three years of administrative support experience, while prior public service experience will be beneficial.
Main Duties
The Team Assistant will provide administrative and secretarial support to programme teams by:
- Managing diaries and scheduling meetings
- Preparing meeting packs and recording minutes
- Coordinating travel arrangements
- Maintaining filing and record systems
- Managing communication and correspondence
- Providing administrative support to project teams
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment are required.
