Department of Agriculture Vacancies 2026: Pretoria and Eastern Cape Posts Open for Applications

Senior Agricultural Economist – Pretoria

The Department is seeking a qualified professional to fill the position of Senior Agricultural Economist within the Directorate: International Trade Promotions.

The successful candidate will monitor and analyse regional and continental trade agreements, including the SADC Free Trade Area (FTA), SACU agreements, and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Responsibilities also include conducting agricultural trade analysis, advising on policy matters, and participating in strategic trade negotiations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • A 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics, or
  • A 3-year degree plus Honours in Agricultural Economics or Economics
  • At least three years’ supervisory experience in an agricultural trade or economic environment
  • A valid driver’s licence

Salary and Location

  • Salary: R605 742 per annum

ICT Systems Administrator Vacancy – Pretoria

The Directorate: ICT Service Delivery Operations is recruiting an ICT Systems Administrator to support and maintain the Department’s ICT infrastructure.

The role includes server maintenance, user account management, troubleshooting technical issues, and researching emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Machine Learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Requirements

Candidates must possess:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a Microsoft server environment
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Valid driver’s licence

Salary and Centre

  • Salary: R487 197 per annum
  • Centre: Pretoria, Gauteng

Business Developer Opportunity in Agriculture

The Department is also hiring a Business Developer within the Directorate: Small Businesses Development.

The successful applicant will support agricultural SMMEs and cooperatives through programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, policy development, and capacity-building initiatives.

Qualifications Required

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Degree in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Management, or Financial Management
  • Two years’ experience in an agricultural economics environment
  • Knowledge of BBBEE legislation and small business development frameworks

Salary

  • R413 001 per annum

Support Staff Vacancies at Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute (GADI)

The Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, has also announced support staff vacancies.

Handyman Vacancy

Requirements include:

  • Grade 9 or NQF Level 1 qualification
  • 1–2 years’ relevant experience in farm maintenance or fence-making
  • Skills in repairs, irrigation systems, and general farm work

Household Aid Vacancies (X4 Posts)

The Department is recruiting four Household Aids to assist with cleaning and food service duties at GADI.

Duties Include

  • Maintaining hygiene standards
  • Cleaning kitchens and boardrooms
  • Assisting during meetings and catering functions
  • Managing utensils and food service equipment

Requirements

  • Grade 10 or ABET qualification
  • Experience in cleaning services
  • Good communication and organisational skills

Salary

  • R170 226 per annum
