National Treasury Opens Applications for Data Analytics Positions

The National Treasury has announced two employment opportunities within the Office of the Director-General (ODG), aimed at professionals with expertise in data analytics, governance, and research. Senior Data Analyst: Data Governance

Salary: R1,101,468 per annum (inclusive package)

Role Overview

The Senior Data Analyst: Data Governance will be responsible for developing and implementing data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with governance standards, and promoting the effective management of organisational data assets.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Computer Science, Economics, Data Science, Information Management, or a related field
  • A minimum of four years’ relevant experience, including two years at Analyst or Assistant Director level
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks and policies
  • Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK and other data governance standards
  • Understanding of POPIA and data privacy legislation
  • Experience with data management and metadata management tools

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain data governance policies and procedures
  • Monitor compliance with governance standards
  • Manage metadata repositories and data catalogues
  • Improve data quality through validation and assurance processes
  • Support data security and risk management initiatives
  • Engage with stakeholders across government and external institutions

Data Analyst: Administrative Data and Research

Salary: R605,742 per annum (excluding benefits)

Role Overview

This position supports policy development through the analysis of administrative datasets and research findings. The successful candidate will contribute to evidence-based policymaking by conducting data analysis and supporting research initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Economics, Econometrics, or Statistics
  • At least two years of experience in data analysis, economic research, or a related field
  • Knowledge of modern research methodologies
  • Experience interpreting and presenting research findings
  • Proficiency in STATA and R software

Key Responsibilities

  • Support policy research using administrative datasets
  • Conduct data quality assessments and analytical reviews
  • Produce reports, policy briefs, presentations, and research notes
  • Assist with data management and quality assurance processes
  • Participate in stakeholder engagements and research forums
  • Present research findings at workshops, conferences, and seminars
