National Department of Health Advertises Wide Range of Vacancies for 2026

The National Department of Health (NDoH) has announced multiple employment opportunities for the 2026 recruitment cycle, inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for positions across senior management, middle management, and operational support levels. The posts are primarily based at the department’s head office in Pretoria.

In accordance with the department’s Employment Equity Plan, appointments will seek to promote representivity in terms of race, gender, and disability.


Senior Management Positions

Chief Director: Financial Administration and Accounting (Ref: NDOH 12/2026)
This senior executive role carries an all-inclusive annual remuneration package of R1 494 900. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership to the Finance Chief Directorate, with responsibility for budgeting, financial governance, compliance, asset management, and internal control systems.

Minimum requirements include an NQF Level 7 qualification in Accounting, Auditing, or Financial Management, as well as five years’ experience at director level in a financial management environment. In-depth knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations, procurement frameworks, and public-sector budgeting systems is essential.

Director: Internal Audit (Ref: NDOH 17/2026)
The Director: Internal Audit position offers a remuneration package of R1 266 714 per annum. Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 qualification in Accounting or Auditing and have at least five years’ experience in internal auditing at middle or senior management level.

The successful candidate will manage the internal audit function, develop and implement risk-based audit plans, oversee forensic and ICT audits, and ensure compliance with professional internal auditing standards. This role is central to strengthening governance, integrity, and performance auditing within the department.

Both senior management positions require completion of the SMS pre-entry certificate prior to appointment.


Middle Management and Specialist Posts

The department is recruiting several Deputy Directors at an annual package of R896 436, including:

  • Deputy Director: Human Resource Administration (Ref: NDOH 6/2026)

  • Deputy Director: Employment Relations (Ref: NDOH 18/2026)

  • Administrative Support and Coordination – Office of the Minister (Ref: NDOH 19/2026)

These posts require relevant NQF Level 7 qualifications and a minimum of three years’ experience at Assistant Director level or equivalent. Duties include policy interpretation, compliance management, labour relations, and executive-level administrative coordination.


Assistant Director and Administrative Roles

Multiple Assistant Director positions are available at R468 459 per annum in functional areas such as:

  • Human Resource Administration

  • Health Financing and National Health Insurance (NHI)

  • Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • CCOD Administration (Johannesburg-based)

Applicants must hold NQF Level 6 qualifications with supervisory experience. Responsibilities vary from HR systems administration and financial coordination to procurement oversight and programme support.


Entry-Level and Operational Vacancies

Entry-level and clerical opportunities in Pretoria include:

  • Administrative Officer – R325 101 per annum

  • Human Resource Clerk (Supervisor) – R325 101 per annum

  • Supply Chain Clerk – R228 321 per annum

  • Administration Clerk (multiple posts) – R228 321 per annum

  • Switchboard Operator – R193 359 per annum

  • Supervisor: Cleaning Services – R193 359 per annum

  • Messenger – R138 486 per annum

Minimum requirements range from Grade 10 to NQF Level 6, depending on the post.
