Department of Traditional Affairs Vacancies 2026

The Department of Traditional Affairs (DTA) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for various vacant posts for the 2026 recruitment cycle. These appointments support the department’s mandate to strengthen governance in the traditional affairs sector and advance employment equity in accordance with the Department’s Employment Equity Plan.

Vacancy 1: Deputy Director – Policy

Reference Number: 2026/01
Location: Pretoria
Salary: R896,436 per annum (All-inclusive package, Level 11)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in Law (NQF Level 7)

  • 3–5 years’ experience in legislation implementation, coordination, monitoring, or support to statutory structures

  • Valid driver’s licence

  • Experience in legislation drafting and interpretation will be an added advantage

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and implement legislation within the traditional affairs sector

  • Develop, implement, and monitor legislative implementation plans

  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation

  • Coordinate all relevant stakeholders

  • Provide secretariat and technical support to the National Initiation Oversight Committee (NIOC)

Vacancy 2: Administrative Assistant – Legal Services

Salary: R228,321 per annum

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent

  • Certificate in Office Management or Secretarial Studies

  • Proficiency in English

  • Computer literacy and professional telephone etiquette

Duties

  • Manage filing systems and document control within Legal Services

  • Provide secretarial support to the Head of Legal Services

  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, minutes, and reports

  • Manage diary, correspondence, and communications

  • Arrange travel, meetings, workshops, and conferences

  • Manage stationery, inventory, and office equipment
