Department of Water and Sanitation Vacancies 2026

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for a range of permanent government positions available across several provinces. These vacancies span multiple occupational categories, including engineering, finance, human resources, sanitation services, environmental management, and community development.

Administration, Finance & Support

  • Assistant Director: Human Resource Administration โ€“ Eastern Cape

  • Assistant Director: Management Accounting โ€“ Eastern Cape

Environmental & Community Development

  • Environmental Officer (Drinking Water Regulation) โ€“ Free State

  • Community Development Officer (Water & Sanitation Services) โ€“ Free State


Salary Packages

Remuneration is aligned with government salary scales and ranges from approximately:

  • R325,101 per annum (Level 07)

  • Up to R1,323,267 per annum (Senior Management / OSD)

Final salary packages are determined by post level and verified years of experience.


Minimum Requirements

Requirements vary by position but generally include:

  • Relevant qualifications at NQF Level 6โ€“7

  • Professional registration (ECSA, IRMSA, SAICA, etc.), where applicable

  • Relevant experience in engineering, finance, sanitation, or public administration

  • A valid driverโ€™s licence for field-based roles

  • Strong communication, reporting, and project management skills

Shortlisted candidates will be subject to security clearance, reference checks, SAQA verification, and competency assessments.
