Vacancy Opens at Public Service Commission

The Office of the Public Service Commission has announced a new employment opportunity for experienced professionals in the security management sector. The commission is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Director: Security Services at its National Office in Pretoria.

The role offers an annual salary package of R487 197 at salary level 09 and provides an opportunity for qualified candidates to contribute to strengthening governance, safety, and security administration within South Africa’s public service.

This appointment forms part of the commission’s broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and maintain effective security systems across the organisation.

Position Details

The advertised post is listed under reference number ASD: SS/05/2026. The position has been re-advertised, and applicants who previously applied are encouraged to submit new applications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating various aspects of organisational security, including personnel security, physical security, document security, communication security, and information security.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess an appropriate Bachelor’s Degree, BTech, or Advanced Diploma at NQF Level 7 in Security Management or a related qualification. A valid Grade A PSIRA certificate is also required.

The commission noted that completion of the SSA Security Advisory Course will serve as an added advantage.

Candidates should further demonstrate:

  • Three to five years of supervisory experience as a Senior Security Officer
  • Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Good interpersonal and organisational abilities
  • The ability to work independently and within a team environment

The ideal candidate should be ethical, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and capable of handling sensitive security matters professionally.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Conduct security threat and risk assessments
  • Develop and maintain security awareness programmes
  • Build and maintain relationships with security agencies and organs of state
  • Develop, implement, and review security policies and procedures
  • Manage security operations and supervise staff

Applicants should also demonstrate sound knowledge of security prescripts, procedures, and modern security technologies.

Constitutional and Public Service Understanding

The commission highlighted the importance of understanding the Constitutional Values and Principles contained in Section 195 of the Constitution.

Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of how these principles contribute to effective public service delivery and support the mandate of the Public Service Commission.
