Mpumalanga Government Hiring Candidate Electrical Engineer – Apply by 20 March 2026

The Mpumalanga Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs is inviting qualified applicants to apply for the position of Candidate Electrical Engineer at its Head Office in Mbombela.

This opportunity is designed for electrical engineering graduates registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) who are seeking practical experience within the public sector. The role will support infrastructure development and electrical services planning across the province.

Position Information

  • Position: Candidate Electrical Engineer

  • Salary: R761,157 per annum (all-inclusive OSD package)

  • Location: Head Office, Mbombela, Mpumalanga

  • Closing Date: 20 March 2026

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Senior Certificate (Matric)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng or BSc Eng) or equivalent qualification recognised by ECSA

  • Mandatory registration with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer

  • Valid driver’s licence

Experience related to municipal electrical infrastructure planning, development, or maintenance will be advantageous. Knowledge of renewable or alternative energy systems will also be beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist engineering teams with the development and management of electrical infrastructure projects. Duties include:

  • Supporting planning, design, and implementation of electrical infrastructure projects

  • Conducting technical site inspections and preparing engineering designs

  • Developing cost-effective engineering solutions and project plans

  • Evaluating technical documents such as manuals, procedures, and drawings

  • Supporting energy planning and implementation initiatives

  • Monitoring project performance, budgets, and service delivery

  • Assisting with procurement processes and bid evaluations

  • Supervising engineering work and supporting staff development

  • Conducting research on new technologies and engineering practices

  • Liaising with regulatory authorities and relevant stakeholders
