Department of Tourism Opens Applications for Government Vacancies
The Department of Tourism has announced a range of employment opportunities for 2026, inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for various positions based in Pretoria. The vacancies cater to professionals, experienced practitioners, graduates, and entry-level job seekers seeking careers within the public sector.
The recruitment drive spans several functional areas, including tourism infrastructure development, monitoring and evaluation, labour relations, employee wellness, administration, supply chain management, and risk governance.
Senior Management Vacancies
Among the positions currently available is the Deputy Director: Tourism Infrastructure and Product Development role. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development of tourism infrastructure, enhancing tourism products, and facilitating visitor-focused innovations. Applicants must possess an NQF Level 7 qualification in Tourism, Development Economics, or a related discipline, together with a minimum of five years’ relevant experience.
The Department is also recruiting a Deputy Director: Evaluation to oversee monitoring and evaluation processes, conduct programme assessments, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making across departmental initiatives.
Another strategic position available is Deputy Director: B-BBEE Liaison and Council Administration. This role focuses on tourism transformation, stakeholder engagement, and coordination of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) initiatives within the sector.
All Deputy Director positions offer a competitive remuneration package exceeding R1.1 million per annum.
Employee Relations and Wellness Opportunities
Applications are also open for two Assistant Director positions within the Human Resource Management environment.
The Assistant Director: Employee Relations will manage labour relations matters, including disciplinary procedures, grievance handling, dispute resolution, and compliance with labour legislation. Candidates with qualifications in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or Law are encouraged to apply.
The Assistant Director: Employee Health and Wellness position is suited to professionals with backgrounds in Psychology or Social Work. Responsibilities include coordinating employee wellness programmes, trauma support services, HIV and wellness initiatives, and occupational health interventions.
Both positions offer annual remuneration packages starting at R487,197.
Entry-Level Opportunities
The Department has also created opportunities for individuals entering the workforce.
The Administrative Clerk: Travel and Accommodation position requires a Grade 12 qualification and no previous experience. Duties include managing travel arrangements, processing accommodation bookings, and supporting departmental travel administration.
Additionally, three Supply Chain Clerk: Asset Management contract positions are available for candidates interested in asset control, logistics support, and inventory management.
These roles provide valuable exposure to government operations and public service administration.
Independent Risk Management Committee Chairperson
Experienced professionals with expertise in governance, auditing, risk management, and financial oversight are invited to apply for the Independent Risk Management Committee Chairperson position.
The successful appointee will provide strategic oversight of risk management systems, advise departmental leadership on governance and compliance matters, and support the implementation of anti-fraud and risk mitigation strategies in accordance with Treasury regulations and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
Applicants should possess extensive executive-level experience and previous service as a Risk Committee or Audit Committee Chairperson.
