National Department of Health Opens 2026 Job and Internship Opportunities Across South Africa

Senior Management Opportunity: Director – Employment Relations

The Department is currently recruiting a Director: Employment Relations on a one-year contract in the Northern Cape.

The position offers a competitive all-inclusive remuneration package exceeding R1.2 million per annum.

Minimum requirements include:

  • A Grade 12 certificate
  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Labour Relations or Labour Law
  • A minimum of five years’ management experience in labour relations

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing grievance procedures, disciplinary matters, labour dispute resolution, investigations, and the implementation of labour relations policies within the Department.

Strong leadership capabilities, financial management expertise, and experience handling workplace misconduct, fraud, and corruption-related matters are essential for the role.

Deputy Director Vacancy Available

The Department is also inviting applications for a Deputy Director: Employment Relations position based in the Northern Cape on a one-year contract.

The post offers an annual salary package exceeding R900,000 and is suited to candidates with:

  • Qualifications in Labour Relations or Labour Law
  • Experience in disciplinary hearings, arbitration, and dispute resolution
  • Sound knowledge of labour legislation and public service procedures

The appointed candidate will coordinate grievance processes, manage misconduct investigations, represent the Department during conciliations and arbitration proceedings, and provide labour relations support throughout the organisation.

Graduate Internship Programme 2026–2028

In addition to management positions, the National Department of Health has launched its 24-month Graduate Internship Programme for unemployed graduates who have not previously participated in an internship programme.

Successful interns will receive a monthly stipend of R8,174.78 and gain practical workplace experience at the Department’s offices in Pretoria.
