National Treasury Vacancies 2026: Deputy Director Positions (Pretoria)

National Treasury has opened applications for several Deputy Director vacancies at its Pretoria offices. These senior management roles are aimed at experienced professionals in Legal Services and IT Audit who wish to contribute to sound public sector governance and national financial management.

Available Positions

Deputy Director: Legal Services

Reference: S014/2026
Division: Office of the General Counsel
Location: Pretoria
Salary: R896,436 per annum (all-inclusive)

Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive legal advisory services to the National Treasury and the Minister of Finance, including litigation management, contract oversight, and strategic legal advice.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • LLB or equivalent four-year Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 8)

  • Admission as an Attorney with High Court appearance rights

  • Minimum 4 years’ legal experience, including 2 years at Assistant Director level

  • Proven experience in litigation and administrative law

  • Knowledge of constitutional, statutory, and international law

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and legal instruments

  • Managing litigation matters on behalf of the department

  • Liaising with the State Attorney and other stakeholders

  • Conducting legal research and providing advisory services

  • Supporting responses to oversight bodies and commissions of enquiry

  • Improving legal systems and service delivery standards


Deputy Director: IT Audit

Division: Office of the Director-General
Location: Pretoria
Salary: R896,436 per annum (all-inclusive)

Job Purpose
To manage and execute the IT audit plan across National Treasury entities, ensuring alignment with approved methodologies and strategic IT risk priorities.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • BTech (NQF Level 7) in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Internal Auditing

  • CISA certification (mandatory)

  • CISM, CRISC, or CISSP (advantageous)

  • Minimum 4 years’ IT audit experience, including 2 years at Assistant Director level

  • Strong knowledge of IT governance, cybersecurity, and audit standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and quality-assuring IT audits

  • Contributing to risk assessments and audit planning

  • Advising on IT controls, security, and technology risks

  • Developing IT audit capacity and training plans

  • Reporting audit outcomes to senior management and audit committees


Important Information

  • Technical and integrity assessments are compulsory

  • Use of AI tools during assessments is prohibited

  • The Nyukela SMS Pre-Entry Programme must be completed before appointment

  • Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA

  • If no response is received within three months of the closing date, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful
