Department of Basic Education Announces CPTD Vacancies in Pretoria – Apply by 27 February 2026
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has opened applications for two positions within its Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) Directorate. These roles form part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen teacher development systems, institutional support, and educational excellence across South Africa.
Both posts are based in Pretoria under the Branch: Teachers Education Human Resources and Institutional Development.

1. Assistant Director: Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD)

Salary: R468 459 per annum
Location: Pretoria

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
-
A three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in Labour Relations or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA
-
At least three years’ supervisory experience within the education sector
-
Two years’ experience in the design of CPTD programmes
-
Experience in teacher recognition and appreciation initiatives
-
Knowledge of education legislation, including the National Education Policy Act (NEPA)
-
Understanding of government procurement processes and Public Service Regulations
-
Strong analytical, planning, and reporting skills
-
A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel
Experience in Teacher Well-Being Programmes will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

Coordinate Teacher Appreciation and Support Programmes (TASP)
-
Conduct annual SWOT analyses of provincial programmes
-
Assist in managing and monitoring National Teaching Awards (NTA) activities
-
Support advocacy strategy implementation
-
Manage documentation, reporting, and stakeholder coordination
-
Collaborate with Provincial Education Departments (PEDs), teacher unions, School Governing Bodies, and internal directorates
-
Ensure holistic coordination of teacher training initiatives
Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical assessment and an integrity evaluation prior to appointment.
2. Senior Administration Officer: Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD)

Salary: R397 116 per annum

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:

A three-year post-matric qualification (NQF Level 6) in Financial Management, Public Administration, or Social Sciences (SAQA recognised)

Two years’ relevant work experience

Knowledge of public finance legislation, including the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
-
Understanding of National Treasury Regulations and Batho Pele Principles
-
Experience in financial reporting and administration
-
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
-
A valid Code 8 driver’s licence
Experience in teacher training and support programmes will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

Ensure compliance with procurement policies
-
Coordinate Directorate budgeting processes
-
Manage financial income and expenditure reporting
-
Prevent under- or over-expenditure within budget allocations
-
Coordinate logistics for training workshops and National Teaching Awards events
-
Maintain asset registers and record-keeping systems
-
Provide administrative and financial support to the Directorate
