National Treasury Vacancies 2026: Senior Government Positions in Pretoria

The South African National Treasury has announced several senior-level employment opportunities for qualified professionals with expertise in public finance, economic policy, and government administration. Available Positions

1. Deputy Director: Conditional Grant Monitoring

  • Reference: S122/2025

  • Division: Intergovernmental Relations

  • Salary: R1,059,105 per annum (all-inclusive)

  • Location: Pretoria

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and evaluate conditional grants allocated to local government

  • Contribute to the development of the Division of Revenue Bill

  • Analyse municipal grant spending and payment schedules

  • Support municipal capacity-building initiatives

  • Assist with gazette publications and parliamentary reporting

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) or Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) in Public Finance, Economics, Accounting, Law, or Public Administration

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience, including at least 2 years at Assistant Director level

  • Sound knowledge of MFMA, DORA, and intergovernmental fiscal systems

2. Deputy Director: Municipal Finance Recovery Services

  • Reference: S123/2025

  • Division: Intergovernmental Relations

  • Salary: R1,059,105 per annum (all-inclusive)

  • Location: Pretoria

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess municipal financial performance and risk exposure

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate municipal financial recovery plans

  • Analyse municipal budgets, financial statements, and audit outcomes

  • Provide advisory support on financial interventions

  • Assist with constitutional and legislative intervention processes

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Finance, Accounting, or Business Economics

  • At least 4 years’ experience in a financial environment

  • Comprehensive knowledge of MFMA and local government legislation

3. Senior Economist: Personal Income Tax Analysis

  • Reference: S124/2025

  • Division: Tax and Financial Sector Policy

  • Salary: R1,059,105 per annum (all-inclusive)

  • Location: Pretoria

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct economic and econometric analysis on personal income tax policy

  • Evaluate tax brackets, rebates, and allowances

  • Analyse interactions between tax policy and social security systems

  • Contribute to the Budget and MTBPS processes

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, or Taxation

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in economic research and analysis

  • Advanced econometric and statistical skills

4. Economist: Socio-Economic Policy

  • Reference: S121/2025

  • Division: Economic Policy and International Cooperation

  • Salary: R582,444 per annum (excluding benefits)

  • Location: Pretoria

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on unemployment, inequality, and poverty

  • Provide economic inputs for the Budget Review and MTBPS

  • Maintain economic databases and prepare analytical reports

  • Support stakeholder engagement and policy discussions

  • Contribute to national economic policy documents

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Economics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in research, policy analysis, or consulting

  • Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills
