Major Government Job Opportunities at the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic)

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition has announced a broad recruitment drive offering employment opportunities across senior management, technical, economic, ICT, security, and investment facilitation disciplines. Senior Management Positions (Levels 13–14)

Several senior leadership roles are available for experienced professionals with strong strategic, policy, and governance expertise, including:

  • Specialist: Micro Economic Policy – Responsible for research-led policy development, economic modelling, and stakeholder engagement to promote inclusive growth and decent work outcomes.

  • Chief Director: Capital Equipment and Metals – Providing strategic leadership in downstream metals fabrication and industrial interventions aligned with the Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP).

  • Chief Director: Consumer and Corporate Regulation – Overseeing regulatory operations, organisational performance, and public entities.

  • Director: Export Promotion – Africa & Middle East – Leading export growth initiatives through market intelligence, trade missions, and strategic partnerships.

These positions offer all-inclusive remuneration packages ranging from approximately R1.26 million to R1.49 million per annum, depending on the post level.


Middle Management and Technical Specialist Roles

The department is also recruiting Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors across various specialised fields, including:

Trade and Export Development

  • Export Promotion (Europe)

  • Market access, exporter recruitment, and aftercare

Industrial and Technical Infrastructure

  • Metrology and standards

  • Accreditation, compulsory specifications, and building regulations

ICT and Digital Governance

  • Application development and systems support

  • ICT risk management and compliance

  • Systems governance, disaster recovery, and cybersecurity

Security and Vetting

  • Personnel vetting investigations

  • Physical security services and MPSS compliance

Investment Facilitation

  • Investor compliance and aftercare

  • Site visits and immigration-related investment support

These roles generally require 3–5 years of relevant managerial experience, appropriate NQF Level 7 qualifications, and offer salaries ranging from R582 444 to over R1 million per annum.
