The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD) has announced a senior executive vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Office of the Legal Services Ombud (OLSO) in Centurion, Gauteng.
This five-year fixed-term contract offers an attractive all-inclusive remuneration package ranging from R1 554 696 to R1 858 821 per annum and provides an opportunity for an experienced leader to contribute to strengthening accountability and governance within South Africa’s legal services sector.

About the Role
The Office of the Legal Services Ombud plays a critical role in ensuring ethical conduct within the legal profession and addressing complaints against legal practitioners. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and oversee governance, investigations, stakeholder relations, financial management, and organisational performance.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Public Administration, Political Science, Social Science, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five years’ Senior Management experience within a legal practice environment.
- A Nyukela Certificate for Entry into the Senior Management Service prior to appointment.
Additional qualifications such as a postgraduate degree and an LLB will be advantageous.
Key Competencies and Knowledge
Candidates should demonstrate expertise in:
- Public sector governance and financial management
- Strategic planning and policy development
- Investigation and litigation processes
- Legal Practice Act and professional ethics
- Contract law and statutory interpretation
- Public Service legislation and regulations
- POPIA, PAIA, and PAJA compliance
Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and oversee investigations into complaints handled by the OLSO.
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans.
- Manage stakeholder engagement and public awareness initiatives.
- Drive organisational performance and service delivery.
- Strengthen governance, risk management, and anti-corruption programmes.
- Oversee ICT systems and operational effectiveness.
- Manage financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Provide leadership in human resources, supply chain management, and administration.
