The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is inviting applications for the position of State Accountant: Finance: Budget. Requirements

Applicants must hold a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Accounting, Financial Management, or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in financial management or a related field is required.

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Financial management and accounting principles
  • Public sector financial legislation and regulations
  • The Basic Accounting System (BAS)
  • Budget preparation and expenditure management
  • Government financial reporting processes

Strong communication skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work effectively under pressure will be advantageous.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support budgeting and financial administration functions within the department by:

  • Compiling Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) databases
  • Assisting with Estimates of National Expenditure (ENE) and Adjusted Estimates of National Expenditure (AENE) submissions
  • Consolidating and reviewing budget information
  • Capturing budgets and adjustments on BAS
  • Processing virements, rollovers, and fund shifts
  • Monitoring expenditure against approved budgets
  • Preparing monthly expenditure and cash flow reports
  • Ensuring compliance with the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Treasury Regulations
