Office of the Chief Justice Opens Applications for Multiple Vacancies Across South Africa
The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has announced several employment opportunities for qualified South Africans seeking to advance their careers within the public service sector. The available positions span management, legal research, and communications disciplines, with placements in Mpumalanga, the Eastern Cape, and Gauteng.

Director: Court Operations
Location: Mpumalanga Provincial Service Centre

Salary: R1,317,384 – R1,551,807 per annum
The OCJ is recruiting a Director: Court Operations to lead and manage court administration functions within the High Court division. The successful candidate will oversee court operations, facilities management, security services, records administration, and resource planning to ensure the efficient functioning of the courts.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Management, Public Administration, Public Management, Social Sciences, or a related qualification (NQF Level 7).
- A minimum of five years’ experience at middle or senior management level.
- At least three years’ experience in court administration or court management.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Completion of the Nyukela Public Service Pre-Entry Programme before appointment.
Law Researcher
Location: Eastern Cape Division of the High Court, Gqeberha

Salary: R487,197 – R573,897 per annum
The Law Researcher position offers an opportunity for experienced legal professionals to provide specialist research support to members of the judiciary. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, analysing legislation and case law, preparing legal opinions, and supporting the drafting and review of judgments.
Minimum Requirements:
- LLB Degree or recognised four-year legal qualification.
- A minimum of three years’ legal research experience.
- Experience in superior courts or litigation environments will be advantageous.
- A valid driver’s licence will serve as an added advantage.
Required Competencies:
- Advanced legal research and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of South African legal systems and judicial processes.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Jutastat, SAFLII, and Sabinet.
- Excellent report writing and communication abilities.
Communication Officer
Location: National Office, Midrand

Salary: R338,106 – R398,277 per annum
The Office of the Chief Justice is also seeking a Communication Officer to support the department’s communication, branding, and digital media initiatives. The role includes content creation, graphic design, social media management, photography, and campaign coordination.
Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma in Graphic Design, Marketing, Public Relations, Photography, or a related qualification (NQF Level 6).
- At least one year of experience in a communications, marketing, or public relations environment.
- A driver’s licence will be advantageous.
Key Competencies:
- Adobe Creative Suite proficiency (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Photography and video editing capabilities.
- Social media and digital content management.
- Branding, stakeholder engagement, and public relations expertise.
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
