Department of Communications and Digital Technologies Announces Government Vacancies for 2026

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) has officially opened applications for several permanent government positions aimed at strengthening digital governance, operational management, and payroll administration within the public sector.

Qualified South Africans are invited to apply for opportunities across ICT governance, facilities management, and financial administration divisions. Applications for all advertised positions close on 12 June 2026.

Strengthening Digital Governance and Public Service Delivery

As government continues to prioritise digital transformation and improved public service delivery, the DCDT is seeking skilled professionals capable of supporting innovation, regulatory compliance, and efficient administration across key operational areas.

The department has also reaffirmed its commitment to employment equity and inclusive recruitment practices, with preference likely to be given to youth and persons living with disabilities.

Deputy Director: ICT Data Governance, Risk and Compliance

A key vacancy currently available is the Deputy Director: ICT Data Governance, Risk and Compliance position based in Pretoria, Hatfield.

The successful candidate will support government digital transformation initiatives while ensuring effective data governance, cybersecurity compliance, and risk management across ICT systems and platforms.

Salary Package

The position offers a competitive annual salary package of R1.1 million at salary level 12, inclusive of government benefits such as pension contributions, medical aid, and flexible benefits.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed candidate will be expected to:

  • Support the implementation of data governance frameworks
  • Monitor data quality, integrity, and cybersecurity compliance
  • Assist with interoperability and digital government projects
  • Ensure compliance with legislation including POPIA and PFMA
  • Contribute to strategic digital transformation initiatives

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • An NQF Level 6 qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant experience
  • At least three years of management-level experience in ICT or digital transformation environments

Knowledge of Java, PHP, Python, metadata governance, and risk management will serve as an added advantage.

Assistant Director: Facilities Management

The department is also recruiting for the permanent position of Assistant Director: Facilities Management.

Salary

The role offers an annual salary of R487,197 at salary level 9.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will oversee:

  • Occupational health and safety services
  • Maintenance and hygiene management
  • Business continuity planning
  • Accommodation and lease coordination
  • Physical security strategy implementation

Requirements

Candidates must hold:

  • An NQF Level 6 qualification in Facilities Management, Logistics Management, or Safety Management
  • A minimum of three years’ supervisory experience in facilities or safety management

Additional knowledge of SAMTRAC, emergency planning, and workplace incident investigations will be advantageous.

Assistant Director: Salaries and Payroll

Another vacancy currently available is for an Assistant Director: Salaries and Payroll based in Pretoria.

Salary Package

The position offers remuneration of R487,197 per annum.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will manage:

  • Payroll administration and salary processing
  • PERSAL and BAS system transactions
  • SARS tax reconciliations
  • Debt management and payroll reporting
  • Compliance with PFMA and Treasury regulations

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • An NQF Level 7 qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or Financial Sciences
  • At least three years’ supervisory experience in payroll or salary administration

Experience with SARS EasyFile and PERSAL systems will be beneficial.
