Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) – Vacancy Announcement

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the senior management position of Chief Director: Funding Support and Coordination. This role presents an opportunity to contribute strategically to South Africa’s economic growth by strengthening funding mechanisms for small businesses and cooperatives.

Position Details

  • Title: Chief Director: Funding Support and Coordination
  • Reference Number: CD – FS&C
  • Salary: R1,494,900 per annum (Level 14)
  • Location: Pretoria
  • Closing Date: 15 May 2026 at 16:00

This position forms part of the senior management echelon and requires a highly capable individual with extensive experience in funding coordination or development finance.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A Senior Certificate and an undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in:
    • Development Finance
    • Economics
    • Financial Accounting
    • Corporate Finance
    • Business or Public Administration
  • An Honours degree will be advantageous
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at a senior management level, preferably in funding or development finance
  • Proven experience in audited environments with strong compliance knowledge

Candidates should also demonstrate a sound understanding of key legislative frameworks, including the PFMA, Public Service Act, and National Development Plan.

Key Competencies

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
  • Strategic leadership and decision-making abilities
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • The ability to operate across multiple sectors and spheres of government

Completion of the SMS Pre-entry Programme is a prerequisite for appointment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate funding opportunities for MSMEs and cooperatives
  • Mobilise and secure funding from public and private sector partners
  • Develop and implement funding policies, frameworks, and standards
  • Lead blended finance initiatives to enhance enterprise development
  • Promote competitiveness within informal and cooperative sectors
  • Oversee operational, financial, and human resource management within the directorate
  • Build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships
