Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Opens Applications for 2026 Government Vacancies

Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Town and Regional Planning, Economics, Development Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Local Economic Development, Environmental Management, Resource Economics, or related fields. Candidates are also required to have a valid driver’s licence and a minimum of two years’ relevant experience in mineral regulation.
Key responsibilities include administering land use applications, conducting inspections and audits, processing township development applications, and advising on surface land rights matters. The successful candidate will also maintain databases, prepare recommendation reports, and engage with stakeholders in the mining and development sectors.
The department indicated that strong communication, research, stakeholder engagement, and map interpretation skills will be beneficial for the role.
Personal Assistant Vacancy – Pretoria
The DMPR has also advertised a Personal Assistant position in the Office of the Director-General at its Pretoria head office. The role offers an annual salary of R338,106.
Candidates must hold a National Diploma in Office Administration, Office Management and Technology, or Public Administration at NQF Level 6, together with at least one year of relevant administrative experience.
The successful applicant will provide secretarial and administrative support to the Chief Director, coordinate meetings, assist with budget administration, and ensure adherence to departmental procedures and public service regulations.

Administration Clerk Opportunity for Entry-Level Applicants
For individuals seeking entry-level government employment, the department is offering an Administration Clerk position in Mineral Statistics at its Pretoria office. The position is available at salary level 5, with a salary package of R237,453 per annum.
The minimum requirement for the role is a Grade 12 qualification, with no prior work experience required, making it suitable for first-time job seekers and recent matriculants.
Duties include capturing and updating statistical information, extracting data from mineral databases, providing administrative support, and communicating with mines and organisations to verify information and outstanding figures.
The department noted that successful candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, analytical thinking, organisational skills, and effective communication abilities.
