Department of Basic Education Opens Vacancies for May 2026
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has announced a range of senior management vacancies for 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen South Africa’s education system and improve curriculum delivery nationwide. Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring
Among the key vacancies is the position of Chief Director: Curriculum Implementation and Monitoring, offering a salary package of R1 494 900 per annum. The post falls within the Curriculum Policy, Support and Monitoring Branch and will be based in Pretoria.
The successful candidate will lead national curriculum implementation strategies and oversee quality education delivery across all schooling phases, from ages 0–4 to Grade 12. Applicants must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 as well as a minimum of five years’ senior management experience in education planning and policy implementation.
Key responsibilities include strengthening teacher capacity, improving learner achievement in mathematics and languages, expanding access to inclusive education, and ensuring the effective implementation of the National Curriculum Statement and CAPS framework.
The role further requires collaboration with local and international education stakeholders, implementation of school-based assessment strategies, and support for the National Development Plan objectives towards Schooling 2030.
Director: Teacher Development and Implementation
The department is also recruiting for the position of Director: Teacher Development and Implementation, with an annual salary package of R1 266 714. This role is located within the Teachers, Education Human Resources and Institutional Development Branch.
Candidates must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree and have at least five years of middle or senior management experience within the education sector. Strong knowledge of teacher development programmes, ICT integration in education, and institutional performance management is essential.
The appointed candidate will coordinate and monitor teacher development programmes across provinces while supporting innovative digital learning initiatives. Duties include developing professional development frameworks, evaluating teacher support programmes, promoting ICT-based learning solutions, and compiling analytical reports to guide improvements within the education sector.
